気鋭の若手コンセプチャル・ヴィデオ・アーティスト、前谷康太郎による本格的な個展。
点滅する信号機、車のウィンカー、パチンコ店の看板、そして太陽の光。私たちの生活は、在と不在を行き来する光で満ちている。「ある」ときと「ない」ときのあるものに対して、私たちはより強く、その存在を認識する。
太陽光を中心にさまざまな「ありふれた」光をサンプリングし、ヴィデオ・インスタレーションと写真作品により、光と記憶の関係性を探る。

1984年和歌山県生まれ、2008年東京外国語大学、2010年IMI/総合映像大学卒。大学時から現在まで、自然光のサンプリングとその緻密な再構築によるヴィデオや写真を発表している。「永遠へ」（イメージフォーラム・ヤングパースペクティブ2008）、「things once existed there」（此花メヂア・2010）、「etude for 4 monitors」（森巣ラボ・2010）など。
ステートメント
「みかん（蜜柑）」と「みんか（民家）」のように全く同じ音素を用いていても、その組み合わせ方によって全く別のものを表すという、言葉の構造に興味があった。音楽における一音一音も、鳴らされる強さやタイミングによって全く別の印象に変わることも、言葉のこの構造に似ている。言語や音楽のこの構造は、光を構成要素とするパチンコ店の電飾看板にも見て取れる。ここでは複数の同様の光源が異なる速度／順序で点灯することにより、「光による音楽」を作り出している。
複数のモニターを用いた作品’seasons’、’etude for 4 monitors’では、一つ一つのモニターをあくまで構成要素として捉え、「複数であることによってのみ可能となるもの」を追求している。
また、このような構成要素は、現れ、消えることによって全体の変化を支えている。我々は「ずっとそこにあるもの」よりも、「ある」時と「ない」時があるものに対して、その存在をより意識する傾向がある。この「出現」と「消滅」をする、最も身近で規模の大きいものが太陽である。’a light in memory’はこの「在」と「不在」を行き来する光と、我々の記憶との関係性に言及する作品である（前谷康太郎）。
Statement
I have been interested in the structure of language that two words which consist of the same phonemes (like ‘mi-ka-n’ and ‘mi-n-ka’) represent completely different two things. Also in musics, we can find the structure similar to it. Two tones which have the same pitch often gives us different impression according to their length or strength.
In my work ‘seasons’, ‘etude for 4 monitors’, one monitor is treated as just a component not like a TV which represent something by only itself. I wanted to make what can exist only in the form of plural components.
These components support the whole change turning about presence and absence. As you know, the most huge thing which have both of presence and absence is the sunlight. ‘a light in memory’ is a work which mentions relationship between sunlight and our memory. – MAETANI Kotaro
